A day at Rhino Lodge
Awaken to the beautiful sounds of birds. Following breakfast you will set out with a packed lunch to the Ngorongoro crater where you will spend the entire day having game drives. The floor of the crater is filled with game including lions, rhinos, cheetahs and elephants in addition to flamingoes. In the evenings you will return to the lodge and rest by the fire place as you enjoy a chilled drink. For people staying much longer, we can organize nature walks in the morning and then you later return for lunch at the lodge. From your private verandah you will be able to marvel at Mt. Oldeani and the various animals moving by.
The Crater is home to 25,000 larger animals mainly Zebras plus wildebeests and if lucky you might see the rare black rhino, lions – the black-maned males, over 100 bird species, leopard, hartebeests, cheetah, elands, hyena, buffaloes, elephants, impalas and warthogs
The lodge comprises of 24 rooms constructed as extensions from a refurbished colonial home which once housed the initial conservator of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The guest rooms are constructed in 2 wings extending away from the main restaurant. This restaurant is the major social area and possesses entirely windowed walls looking over an impressive view of the forested hillside. Each of the rooms has a balcony with views of the forest and the grazing area where buffaloes, elephants, zebras plus waterbuck are seen . The decoration in the rooms is very basic with earth tones having red splashes (a color frequently dyed on the local Maasai herdsmen’s clothing). They use Hardwood furniture that is manufactured locally by craftsmen.
The Meals are delicately prepared daily basing on the season. The majority of the food is acquired from the lodge’s farm found in Mufindi. The Breakfast is basically continental and then lunch is a normally a buffet. The Dinner is presented as a 3 course meal including a blend of European, African plus Asian dishes.
